Looking After Curls in Winter

What gets dry, crisp, brittle and falls in winter? LEAVES!

If your first thought was hair, then we need to fix this right away.

1. Every winter has its spring

You know how springs of water look extra beautiful in winter? That’s because winter calls out for more hydration.
Keep your hair hydrated by using deep conditioning treatments every wash. Followed by your favourite leave-in conditioner to give your hair an extra kick of moisture.

Recommended deep conditioners: Sheamoisture manuca honey, Bounce Curl Ayurvedic Deep Conditioner, Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing Overnight Conditioner

2. Take a shower on the inside

Water is your best friend in winter. Drinking water is like taking a shower inside your body.

3. Flakes are only pretty when it’s snowflakes

A flaky scalp is an unhealthy scalp. Always remember to listen to your hair’s needs and clarify accordingly; it can go anywhere from once a week to once every 6 weeks.
A few options can be Apple Cider Vinegar, Bounce Curl’s Shampoo, Bounce curl, Turmeric Hair Detox Mask,  CHI’s Tea Tree Oil Shampoo.

4. Diamonds Gels are a girl’s best friend

Humidity ain’t got nothing on you if you have gel in your hair. Gels lock in moisture and definition for frizz-free hair; making every day a good hair day.

Recommend Gels for Strong hold, kinky curly curling custard, Ouidad Climate Control gel, Treluxe Curl Enhancer Styling Gel, Breahni Light Styling Gel

5. A drop of oil on wash day keeps the gel cast away

Most good hold gels tend to make a cast. Break that cast and also lock in moisture using a drop of silicone-free or light oil that will make your hair shiny and bouncy. Just scrunch it in and you’re good to go!
You can use Argan Oil, Grapeseed Oil,  Righteous Roots’ Oil or
Khalili Rescue oil

6. Flip N Plop, Flip N Diffuse, Flip and Pick

It’s winter and drying your hair on wash day takes 3 days? Nope, not here!
Flip your hair and plop for a few minutes with a microfiber towel, removing excess water and products.
Flip AGAIN (yes, curly hair is a workout) and diffuse. A diffuser, especially, in cold winter days is a true lifesaver! Cuts down on drying time big time!
Flip one last time (I promise it’s the last time) and pick your hair at the root for some VOLUME.
You can plop and diffuse using the frizz-off towel, diffuser and hair pick from the Hair Addict.

7. Let it gooooo

Summer tans will fade but the memories and damaged ends shall stay. A quick trim will bring back life to your luscious hair for another trip around the sun!
